Fifth Update (v 1.2.2.1)


This is the fifth update for Firebat - Revolution. I had some talks with people who played the game, and I realized some problems and addressed them. Overall the game is finished, I had the opportunity to showcase the game on some events and was able to watch players play it. It become a running joke, that every event has someone who is the "Main" or "Top Player" so to speak, as it happened on all events so far: someone, be that a 6 year old kid or 20-30 something adult, and even spent an hour in one sitting with the game or returned to play another half of an hour later. :) The usual feedbacks are nice and complementary, alongside addressing some problems that they had. Any feedback, idea, or ideas I came up with landed in a document and will be considered in the possible sequels.

Bugfixes...

I tried the Hard mode again (see below why..) and realized that any Extra Life Power-Up is destroyed as it falls. That should not happen. I fixed the problem, and now it works as intended: in Normal and Hard mode, only on the Fountain of Life level, Extra Life Power-Ups are destroyed (embedded in Counter Bricks) and only when the player has 3 or more extra lives. This doesn't concern the Normal Mode, as the player always will have more than 3 lives, but in Hard mode this should've been connected only to the Fountain of Life level. EDIT: I found a small achievement bug and that got a "silent update": there's a new version uploaded on the main page.

Design changes...

I modified the Sphera (ball) speed. This means, the normal and haste speeds are slightly less than before, giving more time to reach it. Slow speed was slow already, that stayed as it was. This modification was the incentive to try the Hard Mode again, as last time I only managed to get to the boss fight of the 2nd island. Now I only lost 2 lives until I get to the first level of the 3rd island and one of those was my choice so I could get the Breakthrough Power-Up on the level Magma Chamber. Also in this run I realized the problem with the fore mentioned problem with the Extra Life Power-Up.

I also modified the Basalt Formation level. As this is a bottleneck level and sometimes it can hold up the progression for one or two restarts in Hard Mode, and just can be a pain in the behind in Normal Mode, I decided to add a simple mechanic to the level. Should the player destroy a Tough Brick, another Tough Brick (nearest to the Machina (pad) or Firebat, will move outwards a bit, making it easier to hit or shoot at, to the point they fully emerge and let the top bricks fall.

The new version with these changes are now downloadable from the main itch page for the game, and will be uploaded for the Nintendo Switch in the near future.
