Maps, Timers and NPCs
The Map
The game takes place in the Underworld on a different planet. You will see underground islands floating on lava, or on caustic liquid and you will see a city built on artificial metallic plates. As You, the Player, traverse the Underworld, you'll bump into other creatures on the way. They are scarce, and don't talk too much, but can provide some background information, or some extra item. Or they may want to take away those pesky Golden Credits you earned so hard on challenge levels.
Score Timer and Timer
Golden Credits are mostly so the player is, well not forced, but nudged to tackle the optional challenge levels. They are hard to complete, as on those levels you can run out of time: instead of the normal Score Timer, you get only a Timer. They may also need a specific Sphera upgrade: you can easily figure out which one if you read the text provided on the Upgrade Screen. You may need to strategize what you take from friendly NPCs and what upgrade you choose.
I designed the game, should the player finish within the time limit, a nice sum of extra score can be earned. One remaining second equals 500 points. Do not get discouraged if a level runs out with zero seconds remaining. With the upgraded Sphera, you can always go back to any level and try to decimate bricks faster. This score is essential to unlock the Sphera upgrades and later may play a bigger role in map progression too.
The NPCs
There are other firebats scattered on the map. They can always join you (+1 extra life), or they may offer something instead, like a Golden Credit, or a Fire Pearl. You will also meet Kharon, a mysterious agent of the Underworld. He will ask for Golden Credits to get away from your path. Is his speech in rhymes worth the cost? The safe passage for sure.
How do you like characters speaking only in rhymes? :)
See You next time!
